[posted on both boards] If you have been following my case then you'll know that I gave my contact information to the lawyer to try and cooperate with KODA. I just got an email back from their legal advisor and he tells me that they won't pursue the matter any further as long as I don't break the copyright law again by making music available. ------------------ IP: Logged |

It's nice seeing us all come together... That is good news indeedy! What you were doing was a good thing... I'm very relieved for you... I wonder how much you COULD have been sued for?! [This message has been edited by Drown_Starla (edited 02-10-2003).] IP: Logged |

I just don't get it. What copywrite laws are being broken if you're only distributing official online only or bootleg music with no profit to yourself? IP: Logged |

quote: Well I was pretty shocked about it too but according to the Danish copyright law you are not allowed to distribute live performances without the consent of the artist (and that means KODA, not Billy). So it doesn't matter if it's live or if there is no profit. You have to pay for the use of the music anyway. That's how it is according to Danish law. I don't know about other countries.

that's awesome...good news... as a side note, read the disclaimer on your cd's sometime... the way copyrights work, when a "work" (song, in this case) is copyrighted, any use of that "work" requires the permission of the owner of the copyright. This means ANY use, including free distribution of a performance of the "work" by the owner of the copyright... The main reason for this isn't really financial, although that is a large part of it...It is to provide the artists with control of their own material...to keep people from releasing shitty bootlegs of concerts that the band would rather keep in the vault, so to speak... Unfortuately, with the internet, times have changed and those things get around anyway...so copyright owners need to A) find a new way to protect their "work" or B) Stop caring so much about the protection...this is the route Zwan has taken by encouraging bootlegging and trading...good for them... Hey Plume, it's locke. I'm relieved to hear that it all worked out for you. And as someone mentioned a few posts up, it's nice to see everyone actually coming together. This board fights itself too much, even some of the mods. Billy mentioned rocking for the people who didn't understand. Since we do understand I see no reason for this board to be such a playground. Anyway, thanks for all of your work Plume. IP: Logged |
